COMMUNITY RISK REDUCTION
The Community Risk Reduction Division is responsible for the administration and enforcement of all local, county, state, and federal regulations as they pertain to the safeguarding of the public from hazards. These hazards include fire and explosions arising from improper storage, handling and use of hazardous materials and devices, and from the conditions hazardous to life, environment, or property in the use of an occupancy, building or premise. The Community Risk Reduction Division operates under the direction of the Fire Marshal. CRR Division consists of the Battalion Chief/Fire Marshal, Arson Investigators, and a Fire Safety Specialist. With the help of the Engine Companies, the Colton Fire Department conducts regular inspections of businesses, places of public assembly, schools, hotels, and motels, to ensure that each entity complies with all required fire codes. Performing these inspections increases the chances of mitigating hazards while improving safety for the community. Reaching out to the local community and educating the public in preventing fires and other hazards, while preparing for disasters plays a large role in the prevention division. Our programs target a diverse group, from the very young to our senior citizens. The Colton Fire Department puts on station tours and public speaking events as requested by local groups and schools of the community.
