About Colton
Incorporated in 1887, the City of Colton is an “American Classic” with a proud history. Covering an area of approximately 16 square miles with a current population of over 54,828, Colton is located in the East San Bernardino Valley in the middle of the Inland Empire. Colton operates as a general law city, governed by a mayor (elected at large) and four Council Members elected by districts. The city employs approximately 373 full and part-time staff. City services include: public safety (fire, police and emergency medical services), planning and inspection services, development services, a full range of human services (recreation for all ages, library services, child care, youth and family support programs), public works/utilities (electric, water, sewer), economic development and management services, which provide support to all departments.
City of Colton Fire Department
The City of Colton maintains four fire stations that include: three Type-1 paramedic engines, one paramedic truck, one Type-3 engine, one OES water tender, one OES Type-6 engine, one medic squad and one OES Type-1 engine. Colton FD ran 8,161 calls in 2023. Colton FD participates in mutual aid throughout California and outside California. Members routinely respond to state and federal incident as single resources and as part of incident management teams.
Fire operations division is responsible for training, manpower and personnel, apparatus, fire station maintenance, firefighter’s personal protective equipment, and day to day response of emergency calls. In addition to fire suppression the men and women of the Colton Fire Department provide advanced life support to the community. Three paramedic engines, one medic squad and one paramedic ladder truck staff the four Colton fire stations. Emergency medical services make up the majority of calls each year. Each FF/PM is responsible for treatment of the citizens and completing the appropriate documentation. Colton FD has been providing high quality EMS for its citizens for over 45 years and prides itself in delivering “personal patient care”.
